VCAFC provides an independent forum for networking Family Councils of long term care homes in the Vancouver Coastal region of British Columbia.
Role of the Vancouver Coastal Regional Association of Family Councils
VCAFC provides support and mentorship to new and existing Family Councils.
- We offer facilitation of a family Information session offered by your long term care home to family, friends and representatives of residents to inform them how to start a family council.
We support families with resources and best practices for them to get started easily.
VCAFC hosts educational sessions
- In order to better understand long term care services, we feel it is important to understand policies and regulations, the roles and responsibility that VCH and their private and contracted service providers have in provision of long-term care services and the roles and responsibility of Family Councils.
VCACF offers regional association family council forums
- Family Council member representatives participate in our regional forums where common issues, ideas and successes can be discussed with each other. Collective systemic issues and recommendations are then brought forward to Vancouver Coastal Health where we target actionable efforts.
Networks Family Councils
- VCAFC provides an independent forum for networking Family Councils of long-term care homes in the Vancouver Coastal Health region of British Columbia for knowledge sharing and problem solving.
Advocacy
- Family Council member representatives participate in our regional family councils’ forums where common issues, ideas and successes can be discussed with each other. Collective systemic issues and recommendations are then brought forward to our provincial association of family councils (ILTCCABC) where we target actionable efforts.
Networking with other regional associations of family councils in BC, we make recommendations and formal presentations to appropriate authorities (i.e. Health Authority, Ministry of Health) that will lead to informing policy that improves the care and quality of life of all residents in long term care.
